About Me:

My name is Dominic Jones and I am a third year Film Studies Major at Brock University.  This is my blog for my Audience Studies class - FILM 3P18.  Outside of school, I am the co-owner and head writer of the Star Wars fansite The Star Wars Underworld, also co-host of the popular 'The Star Wars Underworld Podcast' internet radio show.  In these roles I have appeared as a 'Star Wars expert' on the CBC radio programs Metro Morning and Here and Now, as well as on CTV National News.

Why "Starkiller Base"?

The name "Starkiller Base" comes from the upcoming film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.   In the film "Starkiller Base" is home to the villainous First Order, led by General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).  While I'm more of a Rebel Alliance/Jedi Order man myself, I love the name "Starkiller Base" because of its connection back to the history of Star Wars (in early drafts of the original film Luke Skywalker's name was Luke Starkiller).

What does that have to do with audience studies?

Nothing.  I'm just a huge Star Wars fan and thought the name sounded cool.

What's the background image on your blog?
That is the poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens painted by legendary artist Drew Struzan that was given out to attendees of Disney's D23 Expo last August (yes, I was there and yes, I have one).  The characters featured in it are Finn (played by John Boyega in the film), Rey (played by Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren, and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
